Furniture Care
Most hardwoods are open-grained. This means solid wood furniture will expand and contract with changes in humidity and temperature, even after protective finishes have been applied. Care in controlling the furniture's environment will help minimize the minor cracking and warping that is a natural part of the wood's character.
Water Resistant Finish
Our finishes are spill resistant, but it's always wise to wipe up any spill immediately. Standing liquid can cause damage to your furniture over time.
Nail Polish Remover
Avoid using nail polish remover on or near your furniture. Although your furniture is finished with high-quality heat and moisture resistant finishes, nail polish remover will cause severe damage.
Sunlight Exposure
Try to place your new furniture in an area of your home where the sun will not continuously shine directly on it. Long-term exposure to sunlight can cause changes to your wood and finish.
Heat Exposure
Avoid placing your furniture in an areas where a heat source is directed toward it. Try to find a place where there is good air circulation to avoid damage to your new investment.
Humidity Control
If the humidity in your home is too low it may cause your hardwood furniture to dry out or crack. High humidity levels may result in your furniture warping. Indoor humidity should be kept in the 30-40% range to reduce these effects. If the humidity moves out of this ideal range, solid wood chairs and other products can expand and contract causing a gap in the joints. This is normal as moisture is absorbed through the end grain of wood causing more movement in the joints than in the center.
With proper care, solid wood furniture will provide a lifetime of enjoyment for many generations.
